Let's get the obvious part out of the way. Nautis doesn't host your email, and it has no replacement for Docs, Slides or Meet. A startup using Nautis keeps its Google account, and Liftoff asks you to connect Google Calendar and Gmail during setup. So this page won't ask you to leave anything.
What you do have to decide is whether to pay for a second product at all. Google now puts Gemini inside Gmail, Docs, Sheets and Meet, and that may cover you. Here is how to tell, with Google's own pricing and product pages as our source, read on 31 October 2026.
Is Gemini in Workspace enough for a startup?
Yes, if most of your lost time is in the inbox and in documents. Google's pages describe Gemini summarising threads, drafting email, taking notes in Meet, building sheets from plain language and finding things across Drive. For many small companies that is the whole problem, and buying Nautis on top would be a waste.
Try this test on last week. Write down the five things you dropped or nearly dropped, then sort them.
- A reply you owed, a document you couldn't find, notes from a call. Those are Gemini's jobs. Turn it on and use it for two weeks before you look at anything else.
- An investor who went cold, or a follow-up nobody owned. This is a records problem. A tracker in Sheets can hold it, but someone has to keep it current and go looking.
- A runway figure you couldn't quote from memory, or a burn change you noticed late. Again this is a records problem, and it matters most when you're raising.
- An overdue invoice, or a customer task slipping. If these live in a system with due dates, an assistant can raise them without being asked.
- A decision you made and never reviewed. Nautis has a Decision Loop for this. A calendar reminder also works if you are disciplined about it.
If the first item describes most of your list, stop here and use Gemini. If the others dominate, keep reading.
What each one actually works from
Gemini works from your work content, and Nautis works from company records. Google says Gemini only retrieves Workspace content the user has access to, so its view follows the person asking. The Nautis Chief of Staff briefing is per organization, so two teammates see the same company day.
| Job | Google Workspace with Gemini | Nautis |
|---|---|---|
| Business email | Custom address on every plan, with Gemini in Gmail from Starter | Doesn't host mail. MailBox connects your Gmail, with AI summaries and replies |
| Documents and files | Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive. 2 TB per user on Standard | Notes and Sheets, with import from Google Sheets. No Docs or Slides equivalent |
| Meetings | Meet with notes from Gemini on Standard, up to 150 participants | Booking links and scheduling that write to your Google calendar. Meet links need the integration connected |
| Daily view | AI Inbox surfaces urgent action items. Studio has a daily unread-email summary template | 7:00 am briefing across tasks, pipeline, runway, meetings, approvals and overdue invoices |
| Automation | Workspace Studio flows and agents, included in Business and Enterprise plans | Routines from a catalog or your own description: 5, 10 or 15 by plan |
| Investor pipeline | Not listed | Fundraising CRM, Raise HQ, Find Investors |
| Runway tracking | Not listed. Gemini in Sheets can work on a sheet you maintain | Startup Health with alerts, from a monthly check-in |
| Cap table | Not listed | On Voyage and Fleet |
| Holding actions for approval | An approval queue is not listed | Approval Center, with Ask every time as the default |
| Signatures | eSignature with Docs and PDFs on Standard | Docsign module |
Google's Workspace Intelligence page goes further than simple summaries. It says the feature knows what matters to you based on who you work with and which projects are in flight, with no setup. We didn't confirm which plans include it. If your investor conversations all happen in Gmail, it may catch more than you'd expect, so try it before deciding.
Thursday afternoon with a tracker in Sheets
Say you run a six-person seed startup. You track 38 investors in a Google Sheet, runway sits on another tab, and a partner has just emailed: "Send your latest numbers by Monday."
With Gemini alone
This part goes well. Gemini in Gmail finds the thread and earlier numbers, and it can draft the reply. Gemini in Docs can rough out the update, and Gemini in Sheets can answer questions about the tab, on Standard or above, since Google's comparison table doesn't show Gemini in Sheets, Docs or Drive on Starter. The catch is that it works from what the tab says. Someone last updated it three weeks ago, and six other investors are overdue a nudge. You could build a Studio flow to chase that, though we haven't tested how far one would get.
With Nautis added
Gmail still handles the email. Investors sit as deals in the round, and Follow up today on Raise HQ lists who needs a note, with drafts from Beacon that by default go nowhere until you click Approve & send. The Investor Snapshot in Startup Health gives you something shareable to send the partner. Be realistic about the effort, though. Startup Health depends on a monthly check-in of cash, MRR and burn, and deals only stay useful if the team keeps them updated. Nautis doesn't make the data appear by itself. It gives that data one home and checks it each morning.
So Gemini helps you answer the partner, and Nautis helps you notice the other six. If you only ever have one partner to answer, you don't need the second product.
How Nautis and Google Workspace work together
The connection happens in step two of Liftoff, which takes about four minutes overall and is open to the workspace owner.
- Give Nautis your website, your pitch deck or both. It fills in your company profile in the background.
- Click Connect next to Google Calendar and sign in, then click Connect next to Gmail. Google asks for each one separately, and a calendar is required before you can continue.
- Check what Nautis learned, with a source beside each detail, and remove anything wrong.
- Read your Chief of Staff's first message, and tick what to set up, such as an intro-call booking link or a monthly investor update draft on fundraising workspaces.
After that, a simple split works. Keep contracts, decks and long documents in Drive. Keep investor deals, tasks, invoices and runway in Nautis. Keep writing most email in Gmail with Gemini, and use MailBox when you want a thread beside your contacts or want to move an attachment to a data room.
Know the limits of the link. Your mail stays with Google, and Nautis holds only access, which you can disconnect from Integrations. Your Chief of Staff never deletes emails or calendar events. Emails it drafts show a preview you can edit, and sends wait for approval unless an admin has changed that under Agent Autonomy. Gmail and Drive aren't named in the briefing's published source list, so don't assume it reads your documents. Connected apps in the integrations catalog aren't mirrored into Nautis either: agents call them when needed. MailBox also has a limited number of connected accounts by plan: 1 on Launch, 2 on Voyage and 5 on Fleet.
Google Workspace pricing, by region as we read it
Google localises this page, so we read two views on 31 October 2026 and label both. These are per user per month, as of October 2026, with the page's Annual toggle on. That toggle means a one-year commitment billed monthly and saves 16%. Your own view may differ, so check it.
| Plan | US view, in USD | India view, in INR | Gemini on the plan |
|---|---|---|---|
| Base | Not shown | ₹99, intro offer ₹49.50 for 3 months, up to 20 users | No Gemini in Workspace apps in the comparison table, which does show chat with Gemini |
| Starter | $7 | ₹270 | Gemini in Gmail, and chat with Gemini |
| Standard | $14 | ₹1,080, intro offer ₹864 for the first 20 users for 12 months, new customers only | Gemini in Gmail, Docs, Meet and more, with Gemini Notebook |
| Plus | $22 | Not shown | All of Standard, with more security and retention controls |
| Enterprise | Contact sales | Contact sales | All features, with agent management through Gemini Enterprise on Google's AI page |
Without the annual commitment, Google's AI page lists Business Standard at $16.80 in USD against $14 with it. We couldn't read non-annual figures for the other plans or for India from the raw page. Starter, Standard and Plus stop at 300 users.
Adding Nautis. Nautis is priced per plan rather than per person: Launch $49 for 5 members, Voyage $99 for 10, Fleet $129 for 25, or ₹3,999, ₹8,999 and ₹11,999 in India, as of October 2026. There is no free tier, only a 14-day trial with no card, and other regional prices may apply on our pricing page.
The six-person example in full. In the US, six Standard seats at $14 come to $84. Launch stops at five members, so you'd need Voyage at $99, for $183 a month in total. In India, it is ₹6,480 plus ₹8,999, or ₹15,479 before tax and before any intro offer. That is more than double the Workspace bill alone, so you should be able to name what it buys you.
What Nautis won't do for a Google shop
- Replace anything you rely on daily. You still pay for Workspace. Nautis is an added cost rather than a saving on that line, unless it replaces other tools such as a separate CRM.
- Write inside your documents. Gemini sits in the Docs or Sheets page you have open. Nautis works in its own screens, and its Sheets import copies a file in rather than keeping you in Google's editor.
- Run itself. The default of asking every time means someone reviews cards, and the briefing skips any source with no data. A thin workspace gives a thin briefing.
- Offer unlimited AI. Credits are capped at 1,000, 2,000 or 2,600 a month by plan. When they run out, chat stops until they reset or you top up.
- Show a long record. Nautis launched publicly in July 2026, and few independent reviews exist. Google's startup page says 96% of Forbes' Next Billion-Dollar Startups use Workspace.
- Go deep in each function. A dedicated CRM, accounting package or cap table administrator will do more than the matching Nautis module. It isn't an accounting system or a payroll provider.
When Gemini alone is the right call
Stick with Workspace and Gemini if any of these fit. Spending nothing extra is often the correct decision.
- You aren't raising in the next year and your runway isn't in question.
- Your company runs on conversations and documents, as many agencies and consultancies do.
- You have a handful of investors or customers and can hold them in a Sheet you trust.
- You like building your own automations and will maintain them. Compare the effort in build vs buy an AI chief of staff.
- You have more than 25 people who would need Nautis access.
Add Nautis when records start slipping rather than messages: a live raise with dozens of investors, burn you want watched, and follow-ups with no clear owner. Before committing, check what an AI chief of staff can't do, since neither product replaces judgement. For a wider view of suites, see all-in-one software for startups.
FAQ
Do I have to leave Google Workspace to use Nautis?
No. Nautis doesn't host email and has no replacement for Docs, Slides or Meet. Its Liftoff setup connects your Google Calendar and Gmail, so you keep Workspace and add Nautis beside it.
In Nautis vs Google Workspace, which AI should a founder start with?
Start with Gemini if you already pay for Workspace, because it may solve the problem at no added cost. Move to Nautis if what you keep dropping are investor follow-ups, runway and tasks rather than email and documents. The two can run side by side.
Which Google Workspace plan includes Gemini?
Google's pricing page lists Gemini in Gmail and chat with Gemini on Starter. Standard adds Gemini in Docs, Meet and more, and the comparison table shows Gemini in Docs, Sheets, Drive and Meet as not supported on Starter. As of October 2026 we read Starter at $7 and Standard at $14 in the US view with annual commitment, and ₹270 and ₹1,080 in the India view.
Can Gemini track my fundraising pipeline?
It can work with a tracker you keep in Sheets, on a plan that includes Gemini in Sheets. A dedicated investor pipeline wasn't listed on the Google pages we read, and the tracker is only as current as your last edit. Nautis has a Fundraising CRM, but it needs updating by your team too.
Does the Nautis Chief of Staff read my Gmail and Drive?
Liftoff connects your calendar and Gmail so the Chief of Staff can book meetings and handle email, with sends held for approval by default. The morning briefing's published sources are workspace records, and Gmail and Drive aren't named among them. Don't assume it has read your documents.
